Evelyn Pringle has written a great piece on the side effects of Fosamax and the debate over what to do about it.
Merck's second-best selling drug, Fosamax, has been linked to jaw bone death, a condition that can involve severe pain, infection, loose teeth, exposed bone, loss of function and disfigurement, according to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. And yet sales of the drug remain steady with no decrease whatsoever.

Hello!
Fosamax is a pretty rough medication when you have needs for dental care. My doctor tried to give it to me, but with the ONJ risks I chose another, non-bisphosphonate.

Re Fosamax: I suspect it initiated tinnitis and sensitive jaw as well as headaches and hearing loss. I have stopped taking it:it has taken me 3 or 4 months to return to pre fosamax condition. the Australian therapeutic drugs admin had not heard of it causing hearing loss and only 1or 2 cases of tinnitis were reported.Doctors and specialists were disbelieving when I mentioned my suspicions, but here I am, a Fosamax survivor and feeling great.
