Your Jaw Bone in a Bucket

In the past month the osteoporosis drug Fosamax has been in the news due to lawsuits that allege it can cause osteonecrosis of the jaw. Fosamax is a bisphosphonate drug. Other drugs in this class include Boniva and Actonel, among others. Over 30 million women were given prescriptions for Fosamax last year. Since the story first came out I've been researching the subject and am working on a long post on this topic but for now here's a story about one woman who is suing Merck over Fosamax.

Raisor was told her jaw bone was going to end up in a bucket. "They took some out, took some out, kept taking more out," Raisor said.

They tried to save what they could. They used a metal plate for reinforcement.

It didn't work. (wave3.com)

When I posted about the rotting jaws associated with this drug I was shocked and appalled. I look forward to reading your in depth post on this situation. Please keep me advised of what you find.
I will do a follow-up post letting our readers know about your investigative feature post. Dalene

I had a catscan done and it showed nothing, yet my jaw still bothers me. Did anyone else have this problem.? Doctors not taking this seriously as Catscan showed nothing.

I was told by my Doctor that I have to take 2 Prilosec pills each day for the rest of my life. I am concern by the various side effects I keep hearing about. I am 59 years old and also take high blood pressure medicine. Am I right to be worried?
Thanks for your comments.

I just got really good news from my doctor. A few years ago I had a bone density scan done because I was having spine pain. I then started using natural Progesterone Cream, rubbing just 1/4 tsp. into my skin every day. My spine pain started going away! I have kept using it faithfully.

Then last week I had another bone density scan done. My doctor compared them closely and she told me that my bone health is actually getting better! My bones are in better shape now than they were a few years ago. Isn't that amazing? I told her that the only thing I have been doing to maintain my bone density is to use natural, over-the-counter Progesterone Cream every day. And now I know it is working beautifully. I get my progesterone cream from Puritan's Pride catalog. It contains the correct amount of progesterone recommended by Dr. John Lee.

I am 14. I was recently diagnosed with periodontal disease, in my mouth, I never thought it would happen to me, but it did, it's been a realy lond lass cuple weeks.

I take arimadex. I was told by my physician I need to take Foxamax due to the cancer drug depleting my bone density. I have had constant bone and jaw pain since taking Foxamax. Has anyone else had similar problems that also takes arimadex and has your bone density improved since taking the drug??

I've been taking Fosamax for 11 years with bone density tests yearly. I've had a lot of pain especially in one leg. Recently, I had extreme pain in the other leg and finally unable to walk without a cane. I went to the doctor and after xrays, cat scans and MRI found that I had a broken pelvis, (never did I ever fall), and an extremely large amount of fractures in the spine with bone spurs. I've lost 2 inches in height. I've read that Fosamax when taken for a long period, (over 5 years) reverses itself and causes the bones to be brittle. According to the cat scan and MRI, my bone density is not much. I am now on Forteo, hoping that this drug will cause me to start making bone again.
